Flu and Covid Vaccines 2022- 23

Clinics are now available to book in for your flu or flu and COVID vaccination (if you would like them together).  If you are over 65 or in one of the at risk categories (see below) and have not yet booked or received a text please complete an online consultation form (econsult), email us, phone us or call in person to speak to one of the reception team.

Patients continue to be invited for their flu vaccines starting with our Care Homes, the over 65s and our extremely vulnerable patients. We have the second of our four Saturday flu clinics on Saturday 15th October and will continue through October. We also have nurse vaccination clinic appointments during the week.

Who can have the flu vaccine?

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to adults who:

  • are 65 and over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2023)
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get a severe infection due to a weakened immune system, such as someone living with HIV, someone who has had a transplant, or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
  • are frontline health workers
  • are social care workers who cannot get the vaccine through an occupational health scheme at work

All patients over 50, who are not included in the above risk categories, we advise you to please book at a local pharmacy as we may not have enough vaccine to cover everyone and therefore will not be invited.

At the flu clinics, those patients in the below categories below will be asked to have a Covid vaccine at the same time. If you are invited and decline to have it at the same time please be aware there will be very limited covid clinics at the surgery and you may have to find alternate vaccine clinics e.g. Stevenage Vaccine Hub.

COVID-19 autumn boosters will be offered to:

  • all adults aged 50 years and over
  • those aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical risk group, including pregnant women
  • those aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression
  • those aged 16 to 49 years who are carers
  • residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults
  • frontline health and social care workers

If you have never had a COVID vaccination, it’s not too late to catch up.  Make an appointment via the government website online  or ring 119 for more information.

Flu protection for children

The nasal spray flu vaccine is free on the NHS for:

  • children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2021 – born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2019
  • all primary school children (reception to year 6)
  • all year 7 to year 11 children in secondary school
  • children aged 2 to 17 years with long-term health conditions

If your child is aged between 6 months and 2 years and has a long-term health condition that makes them at higher risk from flu, they'll be offered a flu vaccine injection instead of the nasal spray.

This is because the nasal spray is not licensed for children under 2 years.

The nasal spray vaccine offers the best protection for children aged 2 to 17 years. They will be offered the flu vaccine injection if the nasal spray vaccine is not suitable for them.
