CORONAVIRUS/COVID-19 – LATEST UPDATE 1.4.20
Harpenden Town Council is supporting a new initiative called Harpenden Cares, It is a community-led response to the Coronavirus involving many of our fantastic voluntary groups including out very own Harpenden Health PCN Social Prescriber. It aims to support our local patients at risk, help keep key services running and be a trusted source of information. Click on the following link for further information
For all our patients who are in the medically, extremely vulnerable high-risk category , click on this link: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable for government support. You can register on behalf of someone if they can not do it themselves.

Please stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms
Stay at home and self-isolate for 7 days if you have one or both of:
a high temperature of 37.8 or above
a new continuous cough
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home

- Rest and drink plenty of fluids and make sure someone checks on you regularly. Avoid unnecessary contact.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Put used tissues into a bin immediately and wash your hands.
- Unless advised not to take, paracetamol can be used to relieve pain or fever. Follow the instructions in the pack. If in doubt CALL your local pharmacy.
- You should remain at home until 7 days after your symptoms started. After 7 days, if you feel better and no longer have a high temperature, you can go back to doing what you would normally do following latest national guidance e.g. Social distancing. The cough may go on for some weeks in some people, even though the coronavirus infection has cleared. A cough by itself does not mean you have to stay at home for more than 7 days.
Urgent advice: Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
· you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
· your condition gets worse
· your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

Please only ring 111 if you are unable to get help online
If you need urgent medical help that is not covid-19 related, please use the NHS 111 online service and only call 111 if you are unable to get help online
111 can only give isolation notes to patients with symptoms for up to 7 days or those living with patients with symptoms for up to 14 days. These should be accessed via the online 111 service
Patients who have been told to stay at home for 12 weeks by 111 are to contact the surgery if they have any further medical concerns
As part of our strategy planning in response to COVID-19 the surgery is now triaging all appointment requests

Stay at home to stop coronavirus spreading
Everyone must stay at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:
- shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
- one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
- any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
- travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home
These 4 reasons are exceptions – even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction.
The Practice premises are modern and purpose built; dating from 1995. Disabled patients can access all the medical services provided directly.
